I don’t get the opportunity to do hospital sessions very often, but they are actually some of my favorite sessions to photograph! The days spent at the hospital after giving birth are so private and intimate, and I feel so honored to be invited in to capture those first moments. It’s even more special when I get to document those memories for past clients! I had just finished delivering Audra’s maternity session gallery when she let me know that they were at the hospital for the birth of their baby, and wanted me to join them to photograph a fresh 48 session.
It was a quiet, foggy morning as I drove to meet them at the hospital. Rain was falling in the hills, and the hallways of the mother-baby wing were calm and peaceful. When I got there, baby boy was sleeping so I spent some time capturing his first portraits, and documenting the details of the room. Remembering back to my own birth experience, I knew I wanted to capture all the small details for Audra and her family to remember. After a little while, family started to arrive, and everyone took turns welcoming and loving on the new addition to the family. We spent the rest of the morning capturing a mix of posed portraits and candid moments as everyone settled into their life together with their new baby boy.
